How to Apply to the Housing Register |
|
All applications to the Housing Register must be made on the appropriate form. Forms can be obtained from:
An applicant can get help in completing the form from the following places:
Applicants to the Housing Register must fully complete the form, and provide the necessary proof of ID for all household members requiring re-housing and proof of residence. The Council may seek further documentation to support an application, as appropriate. This may include proof of eligibility for social housing, proof of income, confirmation of any medical or special needs including a care plan. Without the necessary proofs being provided we are unable to assess an application and applicants will therefore be ineligible to apply for housing. Applicants less able to participate in the process are identified at the point of making a housing application, and assistance will be provided. The form asks applicants to declare if they need help with applying for housing. Such applicants must ensure they tick this box and the Council will contact them directly. The Council aims to assess all applications to the Housing Register within 10 working days of receipt of a completed form. The application is assessed according to the Allocations Policy, and applications are then placed on the Housing Register, in the appropriate band. All accepted applications are acknowledged by letter. This letter provides applicants with the following information:
Applicants are informed as part of their registration letter how to apply for properties. This is contained within an explanatory leaflet outlining the Housing Allocations Policy and Choice Based Lettings Scheme. The Council may in certain circumstances visit you in your home to verify the circumstances of your application. |
